How to Make Multi-Layer Tutu Dress

multi-layer tulle tutu tutorial

What we need to make this beautiful tutu dress--5.5" crochet headband (for up to size 5). 6" Tulle (need about 80yds). 1 bunch of hydrangea flowers (2/3 of the petals covers the front, if you want to cover both front and back, need 2 bunches). 1.5" double face satin ribbon. Rhinestones (8mm stones are used here).

1. Stretch the headband using a piece of cardboard.

2. We need to tie the tulle strands on the headband holes where were marked by checks (both front and back). Check the other tutu tutorial to see how to cut tulle strands quickly. In this project, we cut the tulle to 18" long. We have a lot of priority mail boxes handy so we used unfolded box 1097 to wrap and cut the tulle to 18" pieces.

3. We need double stand to make the tutu full. Just put 2 stands together, starts from the bottom, thread the stands through the holes that marked by checks in the picture above.

4. Tie stands on crochet headband as shown. Keep doing it to finish the bottom line.

5. Start the 2nd row as shown.

6. 1st & 2nd row together. Looks like this.

7. 3rd layer.

8. All 3 layers makes the tutu full.

9. Cut the hydranger petals off the bunch, remove the center, glue the petals on the crochet headband using glue gun.

10. Glue the rhine stone here and there--no need to put stone on every petal.

11. Same technich, in front, tie the 1.5" satin ribbon in the middle. thread both end at back.

12. Pretty. This is meant for my 6 year old daughter who wears Gymboree size 9. It was too small for her. We end up hanging it on her bedroom as a wall decor.
